11.Aug.2010 99 Bottles of Everything Everywhere

Though my apartment contains a bed, toilet, bath tub, sofa, refrigerator, stove, TWO sinks, and many other useful items, my living space is primarily occupied by alcohol and cats. I sort of squeeze in where I can and try not to trip on a box of liquor or a cat. The reason for the cats is self-explanatory unless you have no soul. However, the liquor hoarding may require some explanation. You see, I am not mentally ill or plagued by a drinking problem; I am writing a cocktail book in collaboration with Drink of the Week!

PHOTO ONE: This is the work shelf of mixable liquor. My professional booze. Most of it was provided by liquor brands, which was very nice of them.  Next to the bitters on the bottom shelf are jars of liquors I’m infusing with fruit, vegetables, or herbs.

Fun Fact: For a while I seemed to only infuse clear liquors with things that turned them yellow, giving the appearance that I saved and labeled jars of my own urine. I don’t do that. Notice all the pretty red and pink infusions now.

PHOTO TWO: Teeny tiny mini bottles! It’s like being on an airplane in the comfort of my own home. Most of these were swag from a recent cocktail conference or sample bottles for review.

PHOTO THREE: Some items require refrigeration. My cat Olive likes to smell them.

FOUR: This is the private collection. Some of it is schmancy, some of it’s not. All of it is stuff I like. It takes me years to go through a bottle in here. Including these, I have about 70 full-size bottles in my apartment.

One time my landlord came over unexpectedly. Two cats stood on him and there were empty bottles and dirty glasses everywhere. He has probably warned the neighbors to be on alert for any smells that indicate I’ve died in my apartment and no one noticed.

So that’s what I’ve been up to. How are you?
